Rubik’s Cube Solved!

solvedCheck it out! I solved a Rubik’s Cube! :D Just so you know, the tiles are painted, so no, I didn’t cheat; I couldn’t. I know that there are alot of people out there who can solve one in a matter of seconds, but this is my first time. The reason for this post, however is to make a discussion.

What other type of puzzles out there do you know of that may be similar to this? I’m interested in trying them. And have you tried to solve a Rubik’s cube? How long did it take if you did? Have you tried any of the harder ones like the 5×5’s?  Leave comments below.

Computer Peripherals!

I’ve noticed that not many people really talk all that much about the peripherals to their computer setup. Even the hardcore gamers don’t really say too much about them. Alot of them don’t even spend the money to actually get high quality peripherals. It’s pretty obvious that these days, most people worry about specs alone.

For myself, specs are only half the experience. Ya gotta have the cool gadgets to go with it! A ton of money is not needed to have great gear, and I know first hand not only with computer setups, but with making music as well. So, I’ll go ahead and list what I have and talk about each one.

April Fools & Minor Updates

We kind of didn’t plan ahead, so we can’t join the trend of every website on the internet pulling lame April Fools jokes.

So anyway, have you guys done any pranks today? Tell us about them. Did you make anyone say “FML”?

Lazy Sundays..

Alot of people use the weekend (especially Sunday) to just do nothing and be lazy. For some reason Sunday is always one of the worst days of the week because you feel so lazy that you just naturally feel horrible, or you’ve got work or school the next day on your mind. Not only that but alot of stores close, nothing on TV (then again, I never watch TV anyway), etc.

The reason why I’m bringing up this trivial thing is mainly because I’m just curious. Today is a pretty odd day for me actually. Reason being, I actually got up and did something and felt great doing it. Today is a typical gray, rainy Sunday where everyone around here pretty much refuses to leave the couch, except me this time. I first began reading “Bruce Lee’s Fighting Method: Complete Edition” and as I was reading it I got inspired and wanted to try a few things I found in it. So, I did. I then started practicing different techniques, shadow boxing, and I’m about to do a little bit of power training when I finish this post. When I’m done, I’m going to read some more and chances are I’ll probably get up yet again and train as hard as I can, despite my entire body being sore currently. It’s a fun time, indeed.

Think of this as more of a tribute and overview rather than an advertisement. Neither I, nor DigiMantis is being paid for this post. I just happen to be a big fan! :)

Unorthodox Methods for Musicians

Do any of you viewers use an unorthodox method of making music? Or do you at least know of these methods? I always thought that was the most creative and limitless way to make music, though I’m not particularly amazing at it myself, I do try every now and then. What I am referring to is Chiptune. Not only Chiptune however, but anything else. My good friend, ‘Meteorologist’ for example, composed an entire album using nothing but samples taken from cassette tapes, and it actually sounded pretty decent. Of course, there are also things such as sequencers/trackers that can be used on a PC, or trackers on retro game systems, like the original Game Boy, or a Commodore 64.

When I was first introduced to the genre of Chiptune, I was speechless. It’s just such an awesome way to make music, and can be combined with almost any genre out there if done right. Various examples of Chiptune artists (and also my favorites) include Anamanaguchi, Maru, Phlogiston, 8 Bit Weapon, Meteorologist (heh, hi Jeff), SabrePulse, Swampyboy, etc. I’ve also heard that Beck used elements of Chiptune in his music, but I’m not much of a listener of Beck, so I can’t confirm it. But yeah, I have made a couple of songs using the sequencer known as LSDJ on my DMG-01 Game Boy and it is definitely a fun time, and also kind of a twist for my music, as it’s something that not many would expect me to make. Buy a USB LSDJ cartridge and a DMG-01 for about 60 or 70 dollars, and you’ve got yourself a new instrument. There are also things such as Nano Loop, Nitro Tracker, and even ways of manipulating sound from a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. I just happen to use LSDJ. Some even go as far to use a modded Super Game Boy for the SNES, and that is actually quite an awesome idea. Here are a couple of pictures below. Read the rest of this entry »
