Retro Gaming Resurrection: An Idea
I’m sure everyone by now knows of the Virtual Console for the Wii, the Xbox Live Arcade, and Playstation Network, all with their selection of old titles from various retro systems. Surprisingly, the Wii’s Virtual Console even has Turbo Grafx 16 games, which is very odd (but awesome) considering it was never popular at all. Not only do you have those things available, but there are also older games constantly being remade. Mario, Link, and other various mascots from the 80s and 90s are still going strong as well. Why am I pointing these things out? Well, I think it’s about time that retro gaming makes a comeback.
Technically, it already has, but let’s look at the issue more in depth. First, we all know that over the years, games have gotten even deeper, more advanced, more time consuming, and more complicated to play than ever before. While this is happening, alot of people (including gamers) seem to be getting tired of today’s gaming experience for a few reasons. First, while we always have newcomers to gaming, most gamers are getting older and older, right? This means they don’t have the time to spend hours and hours on one game, especially when it may be some long RPG or something that has 40+ hours of gameplay. Not only that, but some of us are getting a bit lazier, and just want some good quick fun, and are ready for simplicity. The Wii has started to bring that simplicity back. I’m not speaking for all gamers of course, because obviously there are some who enjoy modern gaming just as much if not more than retro gaming, but there is still a huge market for retro gaming just because of the heart and soul that it always had, and the simplicity, and sheer fun behind it. There has always been a pick up and play nature with those types of games as well.
