London After Midnight

Here’s a band that not many people may know of: London After Midnight. Their lyrical content contains a lot of vampiric ideas, and the music itself is just brilliant in my opinion.

In a Safe Place, Album Leaf – review

I’m currently listening to an album by the Album Leaf called “In a safe place”. This music is quite amazing actually, it’s what I like – Post Rock. You may have seen a previous review of mine on a Red Sparowes album. Again, if you don’t know what Post Rock is, it’s deep bass, violins, cellos, sometimes heavy guitar and melodic solos, piano, sometimes vocals and it for sure has a lot of emotion. This particular album features Jónsi, the vocalist from the Icelandic post rock band Sigur Rós, his high and smooth vocals are so unique, you wouldn’t find them in any other music.

This album is a compilation of 10 tracks, all different. My personal favourites are Over the Pond and Twenty Two Fourteen. It’s quite indescribable how much power Twenty Two Fourteen has, it doesn’t make me feel sad, but it has the power to make me feel like I want to cry, it’s odd. This music just makes me think about my life and how it is, just puts me in a weird mood where all I want to do is describe things and write. This bands music has been beautifully organised and structured, put together so perfectly and carefully, it’s just a sweet, sweet sound to my ears, a sound that could not be achieved with any other music. Others may describe this music as boring and lifeless, but to me it’s the complete opposite.

Aims

Aims. Aims are a good thing to have, but whether you have the motivation to achieve your aims, is the problem. Motivation is a rare thing in your standard person, if we’re honest, we can say that probably over 50% of people are very lazy. If you’re like me, you say you really want to do something – but never get around to doing it. I’ve got some aims for my life, and this year, that I’d love to achieve, but then as I said, whether I have the motivation to try and get these aims, is a different matter. There are things that can motivate us to achieve them, such as chocolate, coffee, people motivating us, telling us that we’re doing well and that we shouldn’t give up on life and people and go to our lonely computer desk for the rest of our teenage years, etc.

Famous people such as Hitler had aims, his aims not being the best of all aims… But, he achieved his aims (even if it was for the worse…) So, my aims for 2010 are: Read the rest of this entry »

Red Sparowes album review

Red Sparowes – Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun

“Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun” is an album from the Post Rock band Red Sparowes. For those of you who don’t know what Post Rock is, it’s deep bass lines, melodic guitar over the top, loud drums, a bit like instrumental metal in some ways. It has a lot of emotion, a lot of the tracks are based on surroundings of every day city life.

This album has 8 tracks, each track varying in length, one is 10 minutes, and another is nearly 2 minutes. The track titles are ridiculously long, for an example track 2: “We Stood Transfixed In Blank Devotion As Our Leader Spoke to Us, Looking Down On Our Mute Faces With a Great, Raging, and Unseeing Eye.” Because these songs have no lyrics, they give you a good title to see what would be happening in the song. The songs can go suddenly quiet, then very loud. It consists of a mix of over driven and clean guitar, with slide.
